“Satin Doll”, by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn: a solo ukulele arrangement

“Satin Doll” is a song written by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn in 1953.

Duke Ellington wrote the melody, and Strayhorn was responsible for its harmonization.

“Satin Doll” was first recorded on April 6, 1953 during Ellington’s first session for Capital Records.

This song become a very popular piece of Ellington Band repertoire and inspired many other jazz artist to perform it such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson and Frank Sinatra.


My arrangement

“A” major, in order to simplify the left hand work.
The right hand may strum all song also using only the thumb, with the aim to allow student to focusing the harmony build by left hand.
